T-Series Replacing the turn signal switch...

Ian, You'll need to romove the steering colum shrould, and then you should be able to see how the turn signal is held on, the turn signal and winshield wiper arm are screwed to each other. When you remove the shrould it makes it easier if you pull the turn signal stalk(arm, lever) out first. Make sure you pull it straight out, if you don't have overdrive and are very very careful you can do the same with the wiper stalk but you have to let it hang because a wire for the washer pump runs through it. Good luck, Mack

well, if you're lucky like me, a PO will have put an after market steering wheel on your car. One of the POs of my car put a LeCarra steering wheel on my car. For me it's a simple matter of removing the 10 screws that hold the wheel to the adaptor and removing the column shroud from the column. The shroud comes off easier with the signal and wiper stalks removed but I dunno if removing them is that great of an idea. My turn signal stalk must have been removed one too many times over the years, because I've had constant problems with it falling out all the time. I finally got fed up with it and "Gorilla Glued" it into the swith.

If your switches are like mine you can push them forward and that'll help ease the removal of the shroud. Not as easy as doing it with the stalks out, but it's not frustrating either.

In short, you shouldn't have to remove the steering wheel to get to the switch, but as mentioned above, you'll definitely have to remove the shroud. On my '76 the shroud is held on by 4 screws: 2 hold the halves together, and the last two (closest to the dash) srew into the column.

Sharpish...this all depends on what year your 'B is. On a 71, you don't have to remove the wheel at all to replace the switch (and I assume here you mean the universal switch, rather than the turn signal flasher unit).

On the earlier B's (Mk II and previous), it should be a matter of removing the plastic cowl, then it's pretty easy to take off the switch and the 'nubbin' mentioned in another recent thread (otherwise known as the turn indicator return lug).

In theory, replacing the signal switch on a Midget only involves removing the shroud, and removing the screws holding the signal switch and wiper switch together. What the service manual doesn't say is that there doesn't seem to be a way to get the shroud off without sliding the steering column out. At least, that's what I had to do when I replaced mine.
