Replacing starter '61 Healey

Good day to all,

I've joined this forum in search of some guidance. A close friend had asked me to see if I can help him replace the starter on his 1961 Austin Healey. In honesty I have not gone through the troubleshooting steps and took him at his word that the starter is bad and needed to be replace. Is there any trick I should know about removing and replacing the starter on these car? I took a quick look at it and from what I can gather, the starter is only held on by 2 bolts. Any advice you can throw my way is greatly appreciated. I love British car but have never worked on one. All my mechanical experience comes from working on my own car which is a 2006 B7 A4.

Thank you,
Tuan

Yep, it's only the two bolts and the battery cable from the solenoid. There should be a battery cutoff switch in the boot (aka 'trunk') that will electrically disconnect the battery from the chassis; if not, remove the ground (could be either positive or negative) lead from the battery to the chassis to prevent inadvertent electrical issues. The starter, if stock, will be the old-style with a 'bendix' gear. Don't recall, but you may need to remove the oil filter to extract the starter (2 bolts into the block). Be careful, the shroud--the sheetmetal around the engine bay and in front of the windshield--is aluminum sheet and will dent if you breathe on it too hard.

You'll find the Healey is to your Audi what a flintlock musket is to an M4.
