Replacing Spridget Coolant

Coolant level shows to be at bottom of the neck after cooking off. Thinking car is self adjusting to normal coolant levels.
 
Yes, if you fill the radiator up to the top of the neck, it will leak out the overflow hose when it expands. Just as you say, the level is self adjusting. Did you know that ALL cars were this way in the deep past?
