Please advise....better to fit the clips to the door frame first then push the seal down onto the clips ...or...clips to seal first etc.

Clips on the door, hold with a bent piece of metal to cup it and push the rubber seal into it. The metal gripper will need to be thin, the front ones get tight. Also make sure they are lined with the indention in the seal.

agree with Wayne

just re -did the outers on my TR4 and found that holding the clip on the tool with blutack and then just positioning it on the door and the trim at the same time worked. I got them all in place then went through and closed them off by pulling up on the tool while firmly holding the trim down.

I found that the clips I had needed to be "opened" out enough to get the initial set on the door.

hope all that makes sense

Thanks guys...
Replaced the inners this morning... opened the clips up slightly as suggested ....found that I had to put the clips that I had onto the seal first... then got the seal started at one end and carefully moved along with the tool that I made until I had all the clips started on the channel and then progressively pulled them up tight.
