MGB replacing 1976 MGB ignition

Hey guys. Since my last post I have decided to replace the aftermarket ignition box with a pertronix kit. While I'm at it, I want to replace all components associated with the ignition. My question is, with the pertronix ignition, what type of coil and condenser and ballast resistor (if required) should I install? The engine is stock except for carb (webber). Thanks for your help.

I have the Pertronix Ignitor in my 78B and one of Pertronix’s flamethrower Coils. Just make sure you get the correct coil for your application. I still have the stock ballast resistor in my car so I stayed with the lower resistance coil. If you don’t know what you have you can actually measure the resistance across the coil with a mulit-meter set on the ohms setting.

Example: 1.5 Ohms Ballast Coil vs. 3.0 Ohms no ballast.

Also look over your plugs, rotor, rotor cap and plug wires. I upgraded all of mine to handle the hotter coil and slightly increased the plug gap.

I never saw any real performance improvements. But she turns over on cold mornings really easy now.

Good luck,
