TR6 Replacement TR6 grill problem....

I had to remove my grill to facilitate my cam removal. Now this is a fairly new replacement grill that is made in Taiwan. The black steel frame that forms the outer perimeter of the grill assembly is actually coated with a thick plactic coating, like it was dipped or something. There are no OE grills out there new. Upon close inspection (I went ahead and disassembled the whole thing to repaint the eggcrate section - just a bunch of pop rivets) I discovered that this plastic coating was cracking. I stuck a knike into a crack and a 6-inch strip of plastic coating peeled right off. The whole thing had cracked everywhere and underneath all this cracked plastic was totally rusted steel! Another six months and it would be new grill time. Really amatuer reproduction. I stripped all the plastic off, treated the metal then coated the whole frame with spray-on truck bed liner plastic. It ain't coming off! I might suggest that those of you with replacement grills checkem out. They are all made by the same manufacturer so it doesn't matter where you bought it. Just something else to play with. Oh, and by the way, I got my totally rebuilt heater in!

Well in this case they were able to fully dupicate factory quality and durability too faithfully. Too bad they couldnt have sprung for some POR15 in Taiwan, they could have had a nicer than new product.....

Bill- The original grill was almost identical in problems as MD stated. Noe that you have it out take it apart and have it blasted all you can. this took acouple of attempts at the sand blaster to grt it perfectly clean and then powder coat it. From then on there will be no more problems
