For the stock carbs, I would tend to agree with you, but only if the linkage had been maintained and there was no binding or wear caused from lack of lubrication. Sadly, most 30-40 year old cars have not been taken care of in the proper manner, thus the problems inherent with owning them.

For the triple carb setup there is no comparison in smoothness of pedal effort and response. I tried both ways and I know it to be true, even with a reconditioned linkage setup.
 
I agree with Paul; I tried for a year to get my linkage to give me 100% on my triple carbs, I never could get past 85% open... and my linkage was in great shape.

It took me a little messing with the Rat-co stuff to get it right, but since then, I've never touched it.
 
It's great to know that these old threads are still around. Just how far back does the archive go for threads, before they are dropped?
 
Paul, I think they go back to the beginning.
But, a few years ago, a bunch of us collaborated on a mass edit, to clean up the archives. Nothing of technical interest was deleted as far as I know. I did the Triumph forum, and I sure didn't ditch anything but idle chit chat.

Here's a dumb question, off topic, but why are new pages "1", and old pages an ever-increasing number? In my mind, a good topic would always remain the same number, and the newest topic would be the latest number.

To me this numbering sequence makes more sense, but what do I know, I'm just thankful that Basil gives us a place to play!
