TR6 Replacement Steering Rack ?

Has anyone fitted another steering rack to a TR4-6 to enable less required steering effort when parking.
Maybe another manufacturer with better gearing, or power assisted rack, that has the same dimensions to avoid bump steer etc.
I am aware of the column EPAS systems, but not an easy fitment under the dash, and can be very expensive.

When you complete making a low speed 90* turn, does your steering wheel return to center ?

NO My TR 6 has stock rack tire size and foot print is the problem I also replaced steering wheel form 14 inch to 12 inch that made it harder to park but more leg room in and out MOTO- Lita look a like for model year 1973 Check tire pressure and do not park try pull through space. Madflyer

This summer I replaced my steering rack with a new unit and rebuilt my steering column. The rack is from a place in Oregon. Stock ratio: 3.125 turns lock to lock. Must admit, the steering wheel is incredibly stiff. I need to investigate further if it is the rack itself or the new bushings in the steering column. I am also wondering if everything will loosen up with time/use. I also don't want to mess with the pre-load on the pinion since it is factory set.

I don't mind it but, the steering wheel definitely does not center itself. Oh, and btw, I installed the rack with the solid metal mounts - love it! Also included in the job were new tie rod ends and ball joints. Wow, major improvement.

I installed a replacement rack a few months ago,,,from Moss, but made in Argentina.
It was very stiff and did not return to center, but I had been told it would loosen up, which it did...Yours may as well within the next few hundred miles

That is very encouraging news that the steering rack will loosen up with use. Today is a beautiful fall day in CT - I guess I have no choice except to take her out for a nice loooong drive today!

It'll take some driving, Bob, maybe a couple hundred. Take advantage of tight turns in the break-in process.
