Replacement Fuel Line

The original TR3A fuel line isn't going back on the car. I noticed that Moss doesn't carry a replacement. TRF seems to have some, but without pictures, I'm not sure which I need.

Anyone have suggestions for replacement fuel line... Is it 10mm pipe, or 3/8?

Aloha,

I have used steel brake line as a source for fuel line. I think 5/16" is the size. Here is a link to the Victoria British catalog page with their illustration:

https://www.victoriabritish.com/icatalog/tc/t.asp?page=80

The pipe from the fuel tank to the front of the car is in two pieces with a threaded coupling in the middle (about under the seat). The line runs down the inside of the frame on the right hand side. The line is connected to the tank with a threaded fitting. In the engine compartment there was originally a fuel shut off valve at that end of the fuel line. The shut off valve is attached to the chassis forward of the wiper motor, but lower. Often these have been removed, probably because the valve seat perished and started leaking.

Here are the fittings I used on my 4 from TRF if you want to use your old for a pattern and bend your own lines from the local shop.

Inlet (tank to pump):

60142 Tubing Nut, male $4.95
TL8 Sleeve $0.55

Outlet (pump to carbs):

60176 Tubing Nut, male $4.95
102729 Sleeve $0.75

I purchased a fuel line from VB. The picture in the catalog shows the pipe in two pieces, with a fitting in the middle. The front half is labled as 20, and the rear isn't labeled.

I purchased the front half hoping it was the whole fuel line, since it said in the description "FUEL PIPE/TANK COUPLING".

It's clearly just the front half of what I need. Should I order a second line identical line to serve as the rear, or should I just purchase a length of aluminum tube and do this myself?

I would get some additional piping and fabricate it myself if I were you. The connecting hardware is one thing you can't fabricate so as long as you have those pipe bending is all that's needed.

It's fine to fabricate this yourself, but I wouldn't use aluminum. The original is 5/16" steel. There were two different rear lines. One before TS60,000, and one after. The earlier seems to be available from several different vendors, but I haven't found anyone that has the late style. The earlier one has the tank outlet in the middle. The later one has the outlet on the driver's side. I bought the the only one available, but since I have a later car, I'm just going to cut a section out and use a compression fitting to put back together. The same type of compression fitting that is used to hook together the front and rear sections.

As long as you have the original to pattern after, bending up a piece of steel line shouldn't be a problem. The fitting that goes into the tank is also a compression fitting with a nut and olive that slides over the tube.

I finally just bit the bullet and ordered the stainless line from Classic Tube. Let's hope it's complete. I believe it's pre-bent.

You'll never go wrong with Stainless!

I have 4...

The axle is actually mounted in the car now, and there are tires on it. Still waiting on front brake discs.

Now that the frame is coming back together, I'll be taking a lot more photos.

Our goal is to be done with the car in September. We're planning a week in mid-May to do the body... blasting, priming, bodywork, and painting. We're doing everything ourselves.

Once the body is done and painted, we re-unite it with the frame, and begin work on the interior (already in progress), and the engine.
