I was reinstalling my engine damper pulley after spending a couple of days cleaning it up and repainting it. There I was trying to slide it onto the end of the crank and I dropped it. No more than 6 inches off the garage floor but wouldn't you know it landed in such a way that a nice 1-inch chunk popped off the thin side of the belt groove. I couldn't believe it! So now I need a replacement 3/8" crank damper pulley. The big three carry these, does anyone have any experience with them or any suggestions to offer on where to source a replacement?
 
UPS "dropped" my damper pulley en route to Damper Dudes to be overhauled. The dudes at Damper Dudes (I had to say that) called me all apologetic for the shipper and said they could braze in a new piece for me, which they did. Can't tell, and they even sent the little broken off piece back with the overhauled damper.

To conclude this thread. I sent my broken damper pulley off to Damper Dudes and they had it repaired within the week. Easy job for them and cost less than a replacement unit. I now have the repaired pulley in hand and will put it back on the engine this weekend. Of course this time I'll be more careful not to drop the pulley.
 
I had sent my damper off to be re-done, it too had a fingernail sized chip out of the thin side. They brazed it but when it arrived back there was a hairline crack on the edge and when I pushed on it it fell off. Brazing is at such low temperatures sometimes that is an issue.

I fired up the Hobart and globbed on some wire, finishing it off with the air grinder. Shot of paint, good as new.

Doesn't look as pretty as Pauls but a definite inprovment.
 
Interesting thread. A welder friend repaired my chipped damper and it has been trouble free.

Ever hear of anybody rebuilding these pieces? You know, insert new rubber between the hub and the pulley ring?

When I click on Triumph at DDs website I get no product available, assuming they do in fact do the TR damper, is the price in the same range as the other dampers they have listed on their site, around $100 give or take a few $$s??
 
They rebuilt my damper for about a hundred bucks, in less than a week, and brazed in a piece of broken pulley that UPS broke en route. Good guys, good service. Recommend them highly.
