Replacement Amco luggage rack

I have an original Amco luggage rack for my TR6 hanging in my garage waiting for re-chrome. Today I received a quote of $750 to re-chrome it. It sounds astronomical to me, but maybe that's the going rate.
I'm now considering just replacing the rack with a new one from moss. For those of you that have the moss one: Do you like it? Is it like the original Amco?
The moss rep. told me that it is made from stainless steel (he was not sure of the grade) so it should hold up better in the rust dept.
Your thoughts please!

Last year I had a TR-3 and a TR-4 racks replated in Tucson, Arizona, cost $150 each. Bill C. Mesa, Az.

Can you supply the name of the company that did the chrome?

Ditto! Also, has the chrome started to peel yet?

I think Bill may be referring to Royal Plating here in Tucson.

I have used them for lots of chrome on both the TR3 & TR4 and always been pleased with the results.

Some of the stuff is about 10 years on now and nothing is peeling or pitting.

Geo- I just sent you a PM

The luggage rack on my TR6 is stainless except for the mounting feet. My luggage rack was scratched and the screws were rusted. I polished the stainless and replaced the screws. The rack looks new… The “pot metal” mounting feet have some small raised metal underneath the chrome but I have not had them re-plated.

George is correct, Royal Plating in Tucson, Az. TR-3or4 valve cover $50.00, TR-3 front bumpers $135. Replate TR-3 nose badge if it has good enamal $45. Their turn around is usually 3 weeks. I know a lot of Triumph local club members who use them as well as several collectors in Phoenix. It so far has been worth the trip down to Tucson. Bill C. Mesa, Az.

Thanks, Bill & George. I may just have to make a side-trip, next time I'm over that way. Got an old AMCO "Vista" grille that needs chrome.

I'm with Bill and George on that. Royal does good work.

Update:
I spoke with Royal Plating this afternoon and I will be packing up my rack and sending it off to them. I can't get any better recommendations than the ones you all have given me... thanks!

edit: Randall... I wouldn't bother getting yours rechromed. Heck for $16.95 just get a new one

I've got an original Amco rack on my '75. I'm told that you can tell the originals from the new reproductions by the cross-section of the crosswise tubes that make up the rack. In the originals they're much more elliptical, while the newer repros are almost round by comparison.

I have a couple of the Amco 6 bar racks in the basement that I need to polish and get ready for mounting on a spare deck lid. Mine are all stainless, except for the stand up legs on each end and the feet. And I bought new feet and the plastic plugs to go into each of the bars. The uprights need some chrome work but I think that I can polish up the bars.
