That looks really nice, but I doubt whether I'd have the patience to sand through the top coat to reveal the number's color. Seems like maksing them off would be a lot easier and just as good unless you're looking at them from inches away....

That said, I've got a pair of vintage, never used Texas '68 plates with the "Hemisfare" logo that I plan to put on my '67 Healey at whatever indeterminate time I finish it....

Tim great idea of sanding the letters I would have never thought of that!Thanx for the post.
One point I thought I would mention after you have cleared the white and it is fully dry, scuff over the finish with a scotch brite pad to give it a mechanical adhesion . Also needed if the black color is allowed to dry past the dry window ie 12 hrs or 1 day scuff before re clearing. Missing these steps could result in peeling or poor adhesion between coats.
