Repaint: original or new color?

I recently had the opportunity to repaint my '73 GT6, courtesy of an inattentive driver at a stop sign. Since BRG is a color with such wide variations, I elected to simply look through the books and pick a color. I ended up with a 2003 BMW dark metallic green. It's not original but it sure looks better in the sun than it ever looked before!
 
When redoing my 4A research showed green with black interior, used the original Triumph conifer green and it came out great. But to your original question stay true or stray, I also wrestled with this and tried different color combos, even metalics, but in the end went traditional cause it looked right. Have seen wonderfull purples and pinks etc but it was not for me. It comes down to what YOU want and will be happy with. A nice paint job will always be accepted by any future buyer and will not detract from your price. Good Luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF

Exactly. What we forget is that most buyers just see the color and the quality. Investors look at the data plate. Run-of-the-mill buyers pay more than those who buy as investments or to flip the car anyway.

Go with what you like, and if you like a little yellower color, go for it and call it Jasmine Yellow. I can tell you that Jasmine Yellow PPG Code 81686 and DuPont code 8453 are not exact to the original swatch of 1969 -- which we know varied in actuality due to different suppliers, mixing and spray technique (in just looking at the original pictures of cars!)

Very goood question, as I am in the process of deciding to re-paint my 74-TR6 as well. Originally my car was the very light blue(french), and along the way it was resprayed to BRG. When I bought the car, I knew the paint job was far from superior. My 1st consideration was resale value, that is if changing the color decreased the mkt value of the car. Reading the dialogue - there seems to be many in favor that it's all personal. Question - is there anywhere a listing of original colors for TR6's and color palet?

An earlier post talked about not changing the colour of his Triumph because of the ID plate showing this number. It really is no big deal to just purchase a new, blank ID plate from any LBC vendor and stamp in new colour codes, along with VIN and date of build. I did that when I rebuilt my TR6, 'cept there is no British Leyland paint ID for "John Deere Green" so I kept the Emerald number.

That was me, Bill, and at the time I wasn't aware that I could get a new plate.
My initial exposure to the GT6 was via a magazine article I saw in Viet Nam in '67. The featured car was a white, wire wheel, overdrive car, and that's what I decided I wanted.
In 1987 I bought a decent mechanical, rough bodied example, and restored it.
So, anyway, I guess there was an attachment to the Old English White.

Okay, I have a deep dark secret that is tearing me up inside. My signal red TR4 is not really signal red. It's actually... (this hurts) Miata red.
