MGB Removing the head lamp ring

Is there an easy way to remove a head lamp ring on a '77 MGB? I can rotate it almost 360 degrees. The manual saids to pry it out from the bottom, but it is still connected in other places.

use a paint can opener - the type that has one end bent up at a 90°. Slip the end under and behind the ring, then pull sharply. It may take several tries to get the ring to pop out. I would suggest lubricating the spring that holds the bottom of the ring with some sile glide to make it easier to remove the next time.
Cheers,

If the ring has been on there for years, it could be a bear to pop off. Like Dave said, get a paint can opener, you might have to grind the end thinner to get enough bite on the ring to pop it off. Get some lubricant inside the bottom of the ring somehow, you can always clean up the mess later. Pull directly on the bottom with a sharp jerk! They were hard to get off when they were new. I had one once where a co-worker squeezed the sides as I pulled on the bottom to get it to pop. PJ

Yep - "elongating" it helps.
