I am trying to replace the choke and heater control knobs and I can't tell if there is a set screw or a spring release. If its a set screw, is it slotted or hex? If its hex then what size?

thanks

The release is a spring release. Stick a thin pointed tip into the hole and push while pulling gently on the knob and it will come off.

Sometimes they can be a little stuck, you have to poke the release throuhg the hole and pull out at the same time, then as it moves get the tool out so it won't impede further progress, in layman's terms you sometimes have to fiddle with them a bit to get them off.
