TR4/4A Removing Front Transmission Seal

Does anyone have experience with this? I think it requires fabricating your own puller tool to draw out the splined shaft.
 
You're talking about a TR4 gearbox? If so, you just undo the 4 bolts that hold the front cover to the main casting and slip the cover off with the seal inside. Then you pry the seal out of the front cover, replace the seal and reinstall the cover. Probably best to cover the splines with something as you install the cover (so the corners of the splines can't nick the seal lips) but no special tool is required.

Be sure to get all of the old seal out, though. Sometimes they break and leave part of themselves behind, which will make it impossible to properly install the new one.

PS, the book calls for special bolts, that I believe came coated with thread sealant. (For TR2-3 there was a lead washer instead.) I've been substituting copper washers coated with Hylomar, which seems to work fine with ordinary bolts.
