Removing Dizzy - issues

I tried to pull the dizzy out of my spare 1285 last night. Turned the engine over by hand and rotor rotated clockwise, yes I know it normally turns counterclockwise, to 1 o'clock position for reference. Undid 2 hold down bolts and dizzy is absolutely stuck and will not come out. Could this be because I rotated engine in a non normal direction and this is somehow holding dizzy in place?

Probably not. In what way is it stuck? Will it turn after you remove the two bolts holding the hold-down bracket (if that's the right term) and loosen the bolt that pinches the distributor in the bracket? If not, probably a little corrosion might be holding it--it's a close sliding fit in the block. Try to get some wd-40 or similar oil into it.

I'm going by memory here, but I think you have to take off the whole bracket (two screws); just loosening the pinch bolt won't be enough.

I did loosen the two screws and on my 1098 the dizzy simply slipped out very easily. I pried and tried to car with rubbet mallet, yes easily but dizzy will not slide out. Not neessary to undo pinch bolt to remove. I'll try to rotate the other way later on to see if that is the issue, I was planning on swapping dizzy's on Bugsy to see if I could get him going. Gathering up tools to go on my rescue mission.

That poor dizzy has been in there so long it is coroded a bit between the dizzy and the dizzy mount. After you have removed the two bolts from the lock plate. pbblaster and a twisting motion to start is your friend.

PB Blaster it will be! I need to get it out now because I can't get one of the bolts back in without loosening the piunch bolt.
