Removing Crankshaft Pulley Nut

Re: What aboout that Tensioner ? Removing DogBolt

Compared to some of the equipment I work on, a Spitfire crankshaft nut is easy to break free, and kinda small.

Use a 3/4" drive set. A 1/2" drive set has too much flex to do a good job at getting the nut off, even with a cheater bar. A cheapie 3/4" set is just fine. There's more than enough metal in them to make them effective.

Rope works wonderfully at locking an engine up, but use a non-compressable rope. I've watched people try it with nylon rope, and then complain about the lack of solid locking. Manila rope or such, so things lock solidly.

Success!!

I borrowed a Hilti electric impact wrench from a friend at work. It's a beast, so it was fortunate I already had the radiator off to give me some room to manouver the thing. It took all of 1/2 a second to do the job.

All I need to do now is JB weld the bodge someone has previously inflicted on my water pump :nonono:

Cheers

Re: What aboout that Tensioner ? Removing DogBolt

Congrats! I learned earlier this year that a good impact gun makes all the difference... and a crappy impact gun is very annoying... After 20+ years of DIY wrenching, I finally broke down and bought a 2135ti and all of a sudden I'm loving air tools.

IMHO, water pumps are cheap enough that I can't imagine "fixing" one... just replace it.
