I need to turn the engine on my BJ8 by hand but can't do it with that odd shaped nut. How can I remove the nut so that I can grind off the "claws" on it so I can then use a wrench to turn the engine by hand?
Oh I forgot to mention that I don't have enough room to push the car in gear to move the engine or a helper to help me do it.

You could jack up the rear of the car place in 4th gear and rotate the right rear wheel. If you're alone, with the car jacked up and in 4th gear, reach down and push in on the starter solenoid to "bump" the engine over.
 
If you want to "assume" that's how he got the "claws" in the first place, then let's "assume" that whoever used the wrench didn't know how to use it. At any rate, here's the fix. Cut a short piece of brass pipe that slipsover the nut. If the diameter is too large, section out a piece. Mold it around the nut and wrench the nut. Any soft, ameliable metal will work. (lead, copper, etc.) The teeth of the wrench should never touch the nut.
 
Will a 1 11/16 open end wrench or a large adjustable crescent wrench fit over the nut and allow me to turn the engine?
