Removing battery tray

While I decide the fate of my bugeye, I decided to cut out the battery tray, as its trashed. Do you look for and drill out the spot welds from the inside of the car or from the outside at the tray? Reason I ask is I can't seem to find the spot welds from the outside, even with taking a wire wheel to the tray. Let me know how to go about taking this thing out if you can.

Are you changing it or just welding in a tray? Mine was very simple to weld in a patch without removing the entire tray.
 
The entire thing is rotten, it needs to come out and be replaced
