I had this posted on the healey form but feel I have found my home here, any suggestions? Was working on the rear axels and drum brakes on my 65 sprite and would like to remove the rear drum plate on the right side so I can clean it up and install new wheel cylinder. Have removed the 4 bolts holding plate to the hub now what? Unable to get the hub off or axel out on that side, axel turns freely. I do not see any other bolts,screws or nuts to remove. Is the axel possibly held in place by a clip inside the rear differential? The left axel easily sliped out
 
going through this on my 63 now. it should slip out just like the left one did. May have to do some tapping with a hammer and a small chisle to get it started , but don't go over board and beat it all up.

Was a little hesitant to go at it with a hammer, will take the suggested gentle approach.

Mine was stuck and the gentle taps with a hammer freed it. But I wasn't too concerned with beating it up, since it was already bent enough to warrant replacement.
