Removing 66 BJ8 Windshield frame

Thanks Keoke: But will pass on the hair dryer. Have already decided to leave well enough alone and go after the ridge instead. Am experimenting with a small section today and am making some progress. Don't know what city the two paint utfits you are referring to re the NUB but doubt they are anywhere close to Spokane WA. But will check with the local auto paint stores to see if they have one.
Re "Riley" don't know for certain but think the show was near the same time as Amos & Andy

The Amos & Andy TV show ran about 78 episodes from 1951-53, close to the Life of Riley series. Starring Alvin Childress as Amos, Spencer Williams as Andy and ?? Moore as Kingfish. Of course the radio Amos and Andy show started about Depression time, very late 20's, early 30's.
As far as the paint ridge problem, see if there is a Wesco Auto Paint store in Spokane. They have them in Seattle and have proved very helpful to me.

Shorn. thanks for the update on the old time radio shows.
There is not Wesco here but I talked to Carquest here and they had a little device that looked like there was an inch long piece of metal (with file like edges) enclosed with a piece of wood. They wanted $25.00 bucks for it and that would be ok I guess if it was my only choice but the razor blade and moto tool seem to be doing ok although rather tedious.

Hi Ron,

What is it I am overlooking.
Certainly not caution. Good question.

Dash pad should be held on by two metal clips that wrap around the top right and left edge of the dash. You will see them, or feel them under the dash lip.

Unscrew the two mirror bolts and remove that small dash mirror... that seems useless when the top is down. (did I just type that, or was I thinking that)

The dash pad is also held in place by the 3 pegs per each defroster. Those pegs line up into holes in the dash top.

My dash also has 4 Tenax studs, for the Tonneau cover. One in each corner and one on each side of the dash mirror. My studs extend through the dash pad. I believe there are holes in the dash top to allow those studs a place to go, so as the dash will fit flush.

Things that still may hold it down:

The clips may still be holding it or keeping the dash from moving up and forward. The dash pad has to raise up enough to clear the above items that extend into the top of the dash.

Dash pad is stuck to the dash top, because of age. Try and gently pry up.

PO may have screwed it on, from beneath.

Attached is a photo of the bottom of my dash, showing the 3 pins that extend through from the defroster vents and one of the Tenax bolts that is near the dash mirror that is effective only when the top is up. (am I thinking out loud again?)

In case your wondering what the grey strip is on the leading back edge next to the defroster vents, it's a self adhesive foam strip I used to keep the dash pad from vibrating against the dash top and windscreen.

Good luck Ron, Roger
