Howdy all:

I'm getting ready to replace all of the 250's aged and cracked crash pads. What's the most effective method for removing the pads on the tops of the doors? Looks like they were replaced at some point in the car's life, since there is a bit of what looks like dried 3M adhesive on the painted surface under the pads. Any advice on cleaning up what must be 20+ year old adhesive is also greatly appreciated!

Try any solvent and keep changing until it works
 
3M Adhesive Remover or equivalent easily obtained at your FLAPS. Also comes in handy to remove the excess adhesive from new crash pad installation....does not harm paint, vinyl.

BTW, this is the ideal time to replace inner and outer door seals. If your window wobbles excessively, or the window is difficult to lower and raise this is the time to check and lubricate window crank mechanism, and replace/repair window channels if the felt liner is worn.....working on the window channels, requires taking out the glass, taking out the glass in my experience requires removing the window seals. If you have the time, just do this all at once...instead of taking everything apart two or three times..which was my fate!
