As driving season approaches it's important to remember :

Every 6 months, get out your grease gun and do the Zerks. It'll save a front end rebuild.
 
How's the Sprite running Bill?
Had it out for any good driving yet, of course there was the drive from Renton to home, any more since? Got those new K&N's on? How is that working out?
 
I'm doing my yearly's on it before driving season. I've had it out for a drive around town, running errands, but it's not quite ready.

I hooked up the speedo at the tranny, but when I drove it still didn't work. I disconnected it at the speedo and the cable was turning, so I put it back on and tightened up the gland nut under the dash and all is well.

I hit the bonnet, the top and trunk with a polisher and got rid of most of the scratches, put on the spring wax job. Got it topped up with coolant, and am doing lube today. Got out the grease gun, bought a case of oil, and a couple of filters and it's draining as I type. It'll soon be ready to drive anywhere. The next trip (Vancouver BC) is only a couple of weeks after I get back from Budapest. I don't want to order bushings for the rear spring swop out until I get back, cause I don't want 'em sittin' on the porch. Hopefully we'll have a N.O.S.H.I.T. before the the Bellevue ABFM so I can get that done. Maybe even the windscreen change which STILL hasn't been addressed.

As far as how it's running, when I did have it out, it was as good or better than it's ever been. Bill M, threw a tune up at it, the tranny is good and tight and the new drive shaft is great.
 
That must be a real joy out on the streets, bet you get a lot of smiles and waves.
Last weekend we had a real warm day, I took the Sprite out just to the store and back, people in the parking lot stopped what they were doing to smile and wave.
I gotta get the horn contacts cleaned up so I can give them a proper "beep beep" in response!
These things are a joy aren't they? :laugh:
 
Bill? You haven't left yet? Any Idea when your flight will actually happen? Are you still retiring on 5/5, or has that been pushed back also?

As far as a NODoody goes, we will have at least one before the Bellevue ABFM. May be we should call it the Bushing Bash as I need to replace mine as well.
 
And with each grease job, check the nut and bolt on the steering rack/column.
Just look at it, think about what would happen if the nut loosened up and the bolt hit the frame. I know 2 people who wrecked because of this.
PLEASE check and tighten it. It takes 2 minutes.
 
We're due to leave on Monday the 26th, and return on Cinco de Mayo, and eight day delay. If we don't get out then, we don't get to go at all, as the window of opportunity to see my daughter in Budapest, closes...

Gotta go check that nut. Thanx Frank. Didja get the paint?
 
Rick, you sure a critter aint plugged them horns up? They did mine.
 
Heh - this is a MK2 Sprite with the 50 year old steering wheel (the Lightning wheel). There's a copper or brass (can't remember, think it's brass) ring around the base of the wheel mounting piece and it gets a "patina" that needs to be cleaned off so that the brush can make good contact.
My horn works when my wheel is turned but not when straight ahead, the reason is the layer of insulating green / black on that brass ring.
