So the PO on the '66 TR4a managed to get the rear shock link so badly stuck that he managed to snap the balljoint off thus leaving the taper fit bolt good and stuck.

No dice on trying to use vice grips on getting it off, and the puller I had on hand wouldn't fit. I then remember the heat trick so I grabbed the MIG and put a big blob of weld on the ball joint end and then use PBlaster to cool it off and it came right off.

Anyway, seemed worth posting so it sticks in someone else's mind when the issue surfaces.

Like this - the weld doesn't count for anything so messy is fine. The idea is just to get it good and hot to break the bond holding it in place.

Anyway....

I kinda think the Blaster did more in the way of thermal shock than penetrant benefit.

Probably Doc, which is why putting it on immediately after getting it good and hot was the plan.

Anyway, hope this helps someone else!

:iagree:

penetrant benefit, hmmmmmm.
I've checked both my Haynes and Bentley, can't find it. Must be translated from the ancient Elsinorish.

mehheh. How's: "Reversal Entropic Effect" then, Mike? :jester:

Good t' see ya, BTW.
