Hey everyone, been lurking about the past few years but not actively posting much since I'm one of those "other British cars" people. And Jensen Healeys just aren't the hottest topic here at BCF. I've had a blast with it though, the restoration is pretty much complete (as complete as they ever are, I guess) and I actually made it through the whole driving season without having to get my hands too dirty. It's nice to just drive it for a change instead of wrenching on it.

Anyway, the wife has mentioned in the past (though she claims she never said this) that our British Car Club events would be more fun for her if she had her own LBC. When asked what she wanted, her list of "demands" were "it has to be cute, it has to be a convertible, and it has to be kind of unique, not like everyone else's car".

So, after a few years of searching around for just the right candidate, LBC #2 has been in my possession for the past couple of months. Meet "Winston", a 1958 Nash/AMC Metropolitan 1500 (technically they removed the Nash badging for 1957 and Metropolitan became its own make).

It was purchased from the estate of a gentleman who bought it to be his retirement project, got as far as disassembling it and having a body shop completely restore the body including a very nice paint job, and brought it back home. Health issues kept him from going farther with it and he passed away a couple of years ago.

So, it's now my project to complete. The odometer reads 39,000 miles, which I believe to be accurate. It is about 98% complete from a parts perspective, just needing to be reassembled, and I also have another 1958 Met that I bought as a parts car so I do have just about everything I need to finish the job. I may be here a bit more in the future since it's got a lot in common with other BMC cars of the era (built in the Austin factory, engine is the same as an MGA albeit with a tiny little Zenith carb, brakes are Minor/Midget/Sprite, and of course all the requisite Lucas electrical stuff) so I think I'll be able to find some answers here if need be.

Wow! M's. J is a beauty.

mind sharing some interior & engine compartment pics?
like to see some progress shots on Winston too.

sounds like you know what your in for!

Welcome back! I'd say you're new project definitely meets your wife's criteria! Lovely!
