refurbish steering wheel

hi all.

i've got a banjo wheel with a slick grip and the black plastic or whatever it's made of ,with white frosty discoloration.

what can i coat it with to look better ,and promote a better grip. i don't want a leather wrap.

Hi Bob - good question. I have one as well that had cracks in it, so I sprayed some high build primer on it, sanded it, and then sprayed it with plastic paint. Looked better, but not right. Wouldn't help on the grip question at all.

I'm sure others here have figured this out so let's see what they come back with.
 
Though I have not used one, off and on Eastwood has sold steering wheel rebuild kits. The kits came with an epoxy filler for cracks and I believe they had some form of plastic primer and compatible black paint for a top coat.
 
Get a small can (actually a double ended tube) of PC-7 epoxy from your local hardware store for less than $10. It's the same stuff Eastwood sells in their kit. I recently did mine and it came out great. Got a pint of urethane paint custom mixed for $35, including catalyst.
