Red radiator farring

HI TH, as far as I know they were painted red at the factory using a brush. Removing an original radiator for a repair, shop painting black and replacement is not considered to infringe on the term unmolested.---Keoke

The common wisdom is brush-painted red, and that is what the Concours Committee expects to see on cars submitted for judging.

However, in those olden days of iffy standardization, multiple simultaneous union strikes, and occasional shortages of supplies, it is quite possible that some slipped through without the red paint. I would hardly think that they would hold up a car on the production line waiting for a striking fan shroud painter to come back to work.

The rule? Red. The exception? Sure.

In all the MG books I've ever read, they always tout Abingdon as never having had a worker's strike, and very high morale.

That's why Enever & Thornton always thought Stokes/Leyland made such a bad decision to close the Abingdon Works.

Not buying the "shroud painter's strike" thing.
 
A bit of mineral spirits, during engine bay detailing, removed black paint on my fan shroud to reveal red! Now if I can only figure out why someone painted the fan red?
