Our MGB, when I restored it, the transmission was rebuilt also, along with the engine. It has always been stiff to shift. It has 20/50 oil in it since rebuild and everything works perfect with the exception of a stiff shifting sequence. Who has experience with Red Line gear oil? Is it the magic solution to a smoother shift? How about some input. PJ
 
I put Red line MT-90 into my 5-speed tranny when I made the switch. I've been happy with it, shifts smoothly with no stiffness; I like it!
With that said, maybe you have something else going on that's causing the shifting problems.
 
I agree, it depends on why it is stiff. If a shift rod is binding, or the detent force is too high, etc, then the fancy oil isn't going to help. But it did improve synchro action in the TR6 gearbox (in my TR3), and smooth out that part of the shift.
 
No it's not binding, it's always been smooth but just a little stiffer than I think it should be. It goes in all gears with no clashing and it can be shifted fast if I want to. I think I'm going to put Red Line in it and see if the stiffness eases up. Thanks for the feed back. PJ
 
The Red Line will only make it better... there's no downside!

I run Red Line in both my '65 AH BJ8 street car and my AH 100-6 MM racer and enjoy smooth shifting on both. It does seem to leak through the gaskets/seals a little more however.
