I picked up a gallon of Red Line MT 90 today I have already drained the gearbox and OD and cleaned the screen and magnet but they were already clean. Do I need to flush things before I add the new oil, and if so how do I flush it. Thanks Skip
 
Unlike say, glycol and silicone brake fluid, synthetic and mineral based oils are compatible. You don't need to remove every last molecule of old gear lube.

If there's sludge, shavings or chunks in the box that's a different story. Otherwise there's nothing wrong with just draining the old and filling with new.

If you want to be really AR you could fill the box with synthetic, run it a bit to mix it up, drain it again and then refill.

For a really mindbending experience pour your freshly drained transmission or rear axle lube into another vessel while in bright sunlight. "Thar's gold (read $$) in that thar oil!"
