Red light camera in Palo Alto, w/ Louisiana plates

Speaking of red light cameras, my son, our first day in California, made a left on a <span style="color: #FF0000">Red Arrow</span>. (we don't have those in Louisiana). I informed him he screwed up and he glanced back to see a camera in the intersection. The car is currently registered in my name in Louisiana, if they mail me a ticket, why should I have to pay? Soon, I will give him the car and he will have a California title and plates. Can or will they pursue a ticket against me?

Read the story of the guy that hated the camera vans so he decided to pump a few rounds into one. Didn't know there was a guy in the van working the equipment. Killed him dead. Now he is in for life.....
 
You might call the LA Division of Motor vehicles if and when you get the citation, they'll tell you.

But, if I was mailed a ticket/citation that was issued to someone else, I'd hand it without delay to the person who was driving the car! Why do anything else? You did nothing wrong!

If the kid earned the ticket, it's his to pay, right?

Let 'em pay it! :yesnod:

Doug, California is going to be a whole new experience for my son. (I lived in SoCal as a young person, so I remember. Also, my wife is a Valley Girl). His insistence on saying "Yes Mame" and "Yes Sir" to anyone over the age of 30 has already gained him notoriety. The gal in the office at Stanford that is doing the processing in for him told him that they were going to change that. His response..."Yes Mame!" All older adults are referred to as Mister this or Miss that, first names. He has his work cut out for him. And those pesky red arrows will be a challenge as well. Also, in New Orleans, pedestrians have a bull's eye on their backs in an intersection. Not exactly the case in Cal.
 
Your son <span style="font-style: italic">might</span> have trouble registering the car in California with an unpaid ticket.
 
The ticket is against the driver, not the car. The red light cameras capture both the license plate and the driver and passengers face. As the registered owner, you will get the citation sent to you in the mail. It is then up to you to prove you were not the driver, but not necessarily the identify of who was.

California vehicle violations are unenforceable out of state. But given the offending driver and car will be licensed in California, either pay the fine, or give him a different car, or take a chance the DMV will find the outstanding citation and refuse to register the car.

Oh, as far as registering the car in California, I believe it only has to be done if your son intends to establish residency. I know the military, even with a 2 or 3 year assignment do not have to change their auto registration or driver's licensing.

But I could be wrong.

Tell you son to take out a loan and pay the fine.
