Reconditioned welders... any good?

I am getting to the point where I need a welder for my TR4A, or a very good friend who would not mind loaning it to me for a year or so...

Surfing the web, there are "reconditioned" units for sale, at quite a discount; about 20% at Tool King.

Looking at a Hobart 140, seems the cheapest of the better gas welders.

Any experience, advice, or thoughts on purchasing reconditioned welders?

P.S. I did a search on the forum for the vendor and for reconditioned welders... no luck.

The Hobart 140 is a good little unit,
reconditioned simply means the seller has replaced the consumables I.E. drive roller, torch liner, contact tip, gas nozzle and Possibly the gas solonoid and drive roller motor.
other than these items there really isnt much else that go wrong. if the transformer was bad most likely it was replaced also.
Hopefuly it will have some sort of warrenty.
If the price is right, and you are in need I say go for it.
I dont know how much you know about welding,
but you will want the gas setup to do sheetmetal
There are other Welding threads describing what gasses and wire sizes suit what needs best.
or you can feel free to P.M. me for further info or ask questions

I picked up a Lincoln MIG pack 110v for $150.00 at a local pawn shop. Might be worth calling around (if you have them in your area)

Most "reconditioned" tools are simply customer returns that cannot be sold as new and hve to be sold as returned or reconditioned goods.

The Hobart is made by Miller. I should work fine for your purposes. Also check ebay...Indiana Oxygen sells quite a number of welding units and accessories at good prices.

I have a Miller 175 that works fine for all of my welding needs. It replaced an older Miller 35 and it welds much better than my old unit.
