That's some intriguing reading information. I wasn't trying to be "concours" but had no idea how far away I am getting. I have a lot of "new" or "original" or "replacement" parts to go on the car, and it will look right to the casual observer, but the concours judges will spend a lot of time subtracting points everywhere.

I don't know much about frames and don't know how to tell what they are. If I use them as often as the top on the TR6, it will not matter. I plan to 'make them useable' as much as 'restore' them, and do not expect to spend a lot of cash doing it.

I love seeing pictures of everyones car -or the bits being worked on. Here's a picture of my "new" frames.


Thanks for the documentation, I'll start refering to it more often. Jerry

That's quite a bit more work than freshening the pretty simple Amco's. The whole frame is fabric covered and that would take some time, skill and practice to get right. TRF rebuilds them but it's not a cheap deal but you'll have a really nice item that will perform properly. They may be able to convert them to wedge simply by adding the wedge. I'm not sure if the rest of the frames were different but someone here will.

My trunk lid has the "toilet seat" covers. This poses another big question about when Triumph used the toilet lids as opposed to the fig leaf style. I always thought that the toilet lids on my trunk were not correct.

I get this feeling that Triumph just used whatever was available during the transition from budget locks to handles. Perhaps there were some lids that got mis-punched for both, and one of them ended up on my car.

My boot lid was hard to lift with just the toilet seats to grab aholt of. I imagine the fig leaves are easier to use, so you should be glad you have the handle!

I have thought the same thing as you ever since I bought the racecar in '97 and saw the boot lid; Triumph used what parts were available rather than hold up the line.

"We're out of the new boot lids but we have some of the old style."

"Use them until we get another batch of the new ones."
