MGC Recommendations for an MGC after-market exhaust?

Howdy all!

The more time I spend with my MGC, the more I love it. One thing that hasn't wowed me is the exhaust note from the standard tail pipe. I don't want something outrageously loud, just something with a bit more "oomph" than the standard system with its two silencers. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket exhaust system for the MGC?

Thanks!

Re: Recommendations for an MGC after-market exhaus

Doug Smith sells a Maniflow system, but it's expensive. The route I went was with a custom aluminized system by a local old-school muffler guy. He hand-formed each pipe and put it exactly where I wanted it. Having 18" glass packs on a built-up engine means it's really loud, so you may want to invest in a different rear box setup. I would recommend running two separate pipes rather than one to get more power from your car.

That is seriously sweet!

I should have mentioned that it cost only a couple hundred, installed.

Bill,

Glad to see your enjoying your MGC.

Maniflow is the best exhaust supplier for your C. They make the "Downton" exhaust you probably have heard about.

Other people sell similar exhausts, Doug Smith included, but Maniflow has the jigs from Downton Engineering and was started by ex-Downton employees, so the experience is there.

I bought my headers from them a few years ago, and they were delivered right to my front door. Top-notch stuff.

Expensive - yes. Thanks to the dollar being in the tank versus the pound, even a case of Old Speckled Hen is a king's ransom nowadays. But I'd say well worth it.
