TR4/4A Recommendation on top for a late TR4A

Hello gentlemen, belated best wishes for 2021.

I'm back to picking at the '66 TR4a and it is time for a new top, any suggestions on sourcing that? More concerned with functional and long lasting than absolutely period correct.

I will be in the market soon and will be watching to see what people say. As far as I can tell only Robbins and Prestige are the main sources. I don't know anything about Prestige. The color choices once you get away from black are limited. Bruce

I think mine is an Everflex from TRF. It's black rubber outside with a gray cloth liner. I tried to find one with tan inside as original but couldn't. I do like the lighter interior when the top is up. I think for longevity the most important thing is care of the window when folding. I'll see if I can find a receipt in a very large pile that I normally choose to ignore.

I like the idea of the grey inner material, that would lighten it up inside.

Sorry it has been to long since I did my TR 6 but I got the light tan inter door panels and extra vinyl for my seats from V B I then took a sample of same and sent to the UK for a matching top I could get any color at that time I did get the zipper window but did not think I ever unzipped it as I run top down most year round. UK is having a hard time right now but not imposable revingtonTR in the UK may be able to help

So top up for sun protections but windows down and rear window unzipped for air flow?

Yes, that's the formula. Out-of-state trips seem to begin and end with a couple of long days in the sunshine. I also have a zip-out on the E-Type for the same reason.

I just installed a Robbins vinyl top on my TR4A, and I find it completely adequate. It seems to be of good quality, and I suspect it will last longer than I keep the car.

Back in the 1960s, the rear window of my TR4A top turned yellow in a couple years, and I replaced it soon after. If the window material is still that bad, I see no point in spending more for the top. However, I think it's likely that the quality of the material has improved in the last half century or so.
