Rechrome Advice

I can recommend what I believe is the best bumper and bumper parts chrome shop in the US.

North Star Plating
2110 S. 10th St.
Brainerd, MN 56401

They do what I consider perfect work and for a more than fair price. The bumpers have been on my concours cars for 15 years and look as good as the day they were installed.

Twenty years ago I sent my Sprite bumpers and a front for my 100 to have plated. They were all beautiful, but the front came back perfectly straight. They had marked it MGTF. As a result I was told if I would send a template they could make it any shape I wanted. Since then they have done several correct 100 rear bumpers for me.

Threads or any close tolerance place that you do not want chrome nickel or copper on is easily taken care of by taping off the part with electrical tape before it goes in a tank. But that takes time so you pay extra for it. Some shops will not extend that service. Specialty shops that cater to automotive nuts will but you pay extra for it.:greedy_dollars:

Estimates from the Syracuse shop are over $5,500 not including bumpers or over riders. I'll skip the list of negatives about the shop and owner. For fun their process.
Syracuse shop process
1 strip all metal
2 fix and smooth all metal
3 Nickel plate for 60 to 80 minutes
4 Chrome plate
5 Polish

For clarification, the list includes almost all chrome for a BJ7. Excluding: bumpers, over riders, boot handle/lock, fender spears, wiper arms, front and rear lamps, lic plate light.
