rebuilding lever shocks

Anyone have experience on this? I took one apart last night to see what make it tick. (Front MGB shock)

The lower piston has a rubber seal that should be easy to source. The seals for the shaft are still in place, but they look like they might be proprietary. I'm sure there will be a way to substitute something modern if needed. In my case the shaft bushings look OK as it never ran too dry. If the shafts are worn there are thinwall shaft repai systems out there, but I'm not sure if they are expensive or not. I saw an article in machine design a few years ago on them.

There are several companies that rebuild these, and of course Tony ie Moss sells them as well. Not to stiff a price in my mind to just buy rebuilt ones or have yours rebuilt professionally. When done right they last forever. My last car was a bit over 30 years old and still had orginial shocks and they were fine.

That URL just took me to the MGBE list of postings - not to a specific one

Tony - Kenny got it right. I should have checked the final product. The url got cut off after the ',' in my original. I fixed my original too.

I got a pair of rebuilt ones from Worldwide two years ago. That was one of the best deals I have found and they do a fantasic job. They will rebuild yours and send them back to you (takes longer) or will swap them as cores for ones they have in stock in a couple of days. Great people to deal with, too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Wonder if he needs any cores - I've got bunches laying around...

Lets see 56 cores here, and 5 more under the bench and that pile outside................ that's, that's ......... What do you mean there are no left fronts?

I've got all the left front ones, Jack....hehehehe

mehheh. Somehow I've got, oh, four sets of fronts, but only one and a HALF sets of rears here. How I came out with 2 rights, one left I'll never know. Mebbe there's a gremlin with a fetish for left side LBC dampers loose?

Well off to the garage to do some cleaning up, I made quite a mess yesterday.

& I'm beginning the disassembly of an old rusty '79...hope to have the body crushed next week

Tony. I actually emailed you directly if you had any cores. Yes, we are looking for cores. esp. fronts. Art, my lead builder's name is Art. You guys could "bond". Peter C.

Ah, Peter - was that you...I sent you an email in answer....yep, got some for you...I'll PM you

World Wide does a great job rebuilding shocks. I had the pleasure of touring the facility back in July and was very impressed.

Tony,

Yes they needs cores!

Peter, is there such a thing a pics of your facility and operation on the web someplace. I would be very intrested.

Oh yea, have a bad Bugeye LH front, one of these days you will get it to rebuild.

What do you guys do beside shocks?

We have a web site. Is it appopriate to be so "commecial" on this forum? I'm still learning the flavo(u)r of this forum.
Peter
