Hi all. 64BJ8. I've attached a photo of my rear wire harness. I need some help with which wires plug into the harness.

Right tailight: bullet clips.. solid red, solid black and solid green.
Harness wires that extend to the right: bullet clips..white with brown strip, solid red. Ground clip.. solid black. (no black bullet?)

Harness wire in the middle: 2 solid black wires join with one ground clip.
Bullet clip..solid red and solid black...for the license plate light.
Ground clip, 1 solid black wire

Left tail light: bullet clip..solid red, solid green.
Harness: bullet clips..solid back, white with purple stripe, 4 way bullet with 3 solid red wires attached and one opening left.

Right tail light...red to red, green to wht/brown, black to ?

Left tail light...Red to red? Green to wht/purple?

Where do the black grounds go? Screwed to the trunk lip, inside?

Thank you, Roger

Hi Roger,
For some reason, photoshop is on the fritz so I can’t post small enough photos right now. The multiple black wires with ring connector screw into the shroud brace that runs along the bottom lip of the trunk opening. About two inches towards the center of the car from the vertical edge of the trunk opening. On both sides. Have you looked at my wiring diagram in the Knowledge base?

Hi Greg. Yes I looked at it. But my car has the single turn/brake lights.

My right tail light has 3 wires coming out of it. Red, green and a black wire with a ring connector not a bullet? Also it has a black sleve through which all the wires run.

My left tail light has two wires coming out of it only. Red and green. No black. Yet there is place on the bottom, that looks like a bullet may go. For a ground wire? Photo attached. Also, why is there no black sleve for this tail light?

The wire harness has an avalible connection, black, near the left tail light. Would that be for a black wire from the left tail light.

Yet the right tail light has a black wire coming out of it, but it has a ring connector and no connector in the wire harness at that end.

I thought that I may have the right and left tail lights swithed, but I don't think so. Because the left tail light opening in the body has a cut-out to accept the area for the extra clip, as seen in the photo.

Next post shows a photo of the right tail light, with the black sleve. The sleve is hard to remove, making me think it came that way? Why doesn't the left tail light have a sleve?

I'm confused.

Right tail light photo, with sleve.
Note the black wire has a bullet, yet no place on the wire harness at the end near the right tail light to plug it into. The avalible black connection on the wire harness is on the left side and is too far a way for this to connect to. Switching tail lights will not work, because the left tail light needs a cut out in the body, as mentioned in previous post. What am I missing?

Hi Roger,
Sounds like you have the wiring figured out. Red to red (running lights) green to white/purple, green to white/brown (both are turn and brakes). Brass fitting on lamp takes the ground bullet connector. I’m not sure why the one pigtail doesn’t have a sleeve. Could be the difference of a reproduction? The lights should be Lucas style 594. I’ll venture a guess that your right taillight may be a Lucas 691, which is for the later BJ8.
