Steven,
Jack is correct in his assessment. Let me add a couple of things. On the axles, where they attach to the differential output shafts are 3 shims on either side. If these are not done properly, you get camber wear on the tyres -- which is what you have. Terrible wear on either edge of the tyre.
Any time you do any suspension work on these cars, you MUST do an alignment. On the rears, Jag even makes a tool called a Rear Camber Checking Tie Down Link (Part # JD145) This is basically a piece of wire with a hook on either end so you can hang the rear 1/2 axles level whilst you do your alignment. Specs for the rear are parallel to 1.6mm toe in (inclusive) WITH A CAMBER ANGLE OF -0.5degrees TO -1.0degrees.
MOST alignment people have this information. When I did my XJ40, we put it on the machine and we aligned it using the AllDATA computer specs and laser light to make sure it was all set properly. I have never had a problem with tyre wear or funny steering -- and the steering wheel aligns properly as well.
As for Z rated tyres, I don't use Z rated for any of my Jags. I am not one to need 150 MPH rated tyres. I make sure I have a speed rating of 120+ with a 400AA Plus rating for heat and wear. I usually get 50,000 to 60,000 miles out of a set of tyres. I also stay as far away from Pirellis as I can.
