Spitfire Rear Suspension Sway Bar?? on 1980 Spitfire

Hello,
I was just trying to get my car thru inspection and my mechanic says that the car is missing the rear sway bar. I just bought the car 2 months ago and have been doing some things to it in my garage so it really hasn't been driven. But that said, I have looked in the Haynes manual and can not find a rear sway bar. I find radius rods or arms.

So is there supposed to be a rear sway bar? Can someone send me or links to pictures of the rear suspension of a 1980 Spitfire?

Thank you all in advance and to those in the US..Happy Thanksgiving!!

Spitfires don't have a rear sway bar. Having one would actually make the jacking problem more severe. There are camber compensators or Z bars that the racers use to help tame the problem.

My 73 doesn't have a rear swaybar...and as I recall that holds true for the 1980 model....

I'm sure Andy or someone will be along to confirm or correct me.

Right, Don! Nothing there originally and no need for one unless you're looking at a highly modified track car (which likely as not wouldn't still have the rear 'swing-spring' regardless). This section of the Canley Classics web site shows various components of the rear suspension, if that helps any.

what the ding dong? You need a rear sway bar to pass inspection? Spitfire's never had one. Time to find a different mech...person to inspect the car.
