Rear Springs Midget

I'm replaceing the semieliptical rear springs on my 62 Midget. The head on one of the two bolts that goes through the frame got rounded off. I've tried all sorts of tricks but can't break it free.
Does the bolt thread into the body above the spring or simply into the spring plate?
If I grind off the head can I pull the spring out with the bolt in it?

I usually end up grinding both the head and tail of the bolt off to get the springs out. They will come out that way.

You will need to turn the spring 90 degrees to remove after the bolt head is removed. I also have had to drill out part of bolt to give enough room to twist and pull out

He typed semi-elliptical, but I assume it is a 1/4 elliptical.

For my understanding. What bolt are you talking about? Do you have a picture? I just took my whole backend off my 62 a few weeks ago and can't visualize where you are talking.

They go through frame then through the end of the spring attached to the car. There are two of them about 4 inches forward for the large u bolt going up from the bottom.

The bolts hold the 1/4 springs to the car where the spring box is in the frame,
basically spring mount bolts

The spring is finally out. There wasn't enough room in the spring mounting box to rotate the spring 90 degrees. The threaded portion of the remaining bolt that I ground the head off was protruding into the open space above the spring plate and wouldn't clear. I was able to get a saws-all between the top of the spring and the spring plate, cut the bolt and out she came. Thanks to all for the advise and helping me to visualize what I couldn't see

Did a desert of sand/dirt come out of yours too? I didn't know where it all was coming from!
