Rear shroud removal advice

Hi guys,

I'm preparing to remove the rear shroud on the BN4 I'm restoring. Do any of you that have done it have any advice?

Thanks, Barry

I've removed rear shrouds from BJ8's. As I recall it was pretty straightforward - nuts and bolts plus a lot of pop rivets that needed to be drilled out.

I've removed the rear shrouds from my BT7 - I agree with Bob 60. Pretty straightforward. Might be some sealing goo/silicone (to prevent electrolysis)from a previous owner between the shroud and the fender if the shroud was removed before.

Once all the obvious (and perhaps not so obvious...) fasteners are removed, use a 3" wide, stiff putty-knife to break the seal from the flange to the inner structure.

Make absolutely sure that the shroud is broke loose all the way around the perimeter before you do any lifting (assuming the shroud is to be reused) as it can be very easily distorted and/or kinked.

If there are areas that have seam sealer or some other form of adhesive that is reluctant to come unstuck, try a heat gun. Heat as much as you are able without scorching the paint and a lot of materials will soften.
