Thanks for the battery suggestions (Larry and David Kiehna showed up and helped). Can anyone tell me something about building up a rear seat cushion? My GT came with the rear seat back, but no cushion. Wifey wants a seat for the kids, and I've stalled as long as I can. I bought the foam and upholstery, but (1) I'm not sure what to use for the base, and (2) how do I finish off the bottom side of the base? I thought about 1/4" plywood, but there's no upholstery piece to cover the wood. I've seen some sort of grained high impact plastic in a couple of cars, but a '69 I examined had a piece of upholstery material covering the base. Does anyone know how it should be done?
 
Should've just ordered a good used seat bottom from me! However, as you've got the foam & upholstery, order an old seat bottom from me - the plywood bottom & the black covering for the bottom...use your new foam & upholstery
 
GT back seats are almost always in great condition, as they NEVER get used. No good, even for children, if you're going any distance at all. The lack of rear belts and any real back support is another problem.

All that said, finding a good GT rear seat at a good price should be no problem.
 
Well, the kids are 6 and 2, so they have to be in child seats or boosters. The body shell is threaded in the wheel wells, and there's a brace in the spare tire area that will take the bolts for the other ends of the belts (saw them in a car in Frankin, TN last fall). That said, I rode in one in 1966, when I was twelve, the girl in the front was 16, and the midshipman driving was whatever age you are when you graduate from the Naval Academy. Don't remember it being uncomfortable, but then I wasn't focusing on the seat.
 
Yes, it can be done, and it sounds like you're on the right track. Make sure you're boosters have as much back height as possible, since the GT back is too small to do any good. My boy's 6, and he won't ride back there. Kids these days, they're just not as tough as we were...
