TR4/4A Rear Oil Galley Plug Sealing

The TR2,3,4 and 6 all have the same problem with overheating when adding coolant. Air bubbles get trapped in the head, and hot spots result. I've had both my 4A and 6 short term overheat when starting up after a major repair. I now use a device which allows a vacuum to be pulled on the cooling system, checking for leaks, and then adding coolant; all in one operation. Very swift.
Side Bar: I overheated my Lemons VW Rabbit engine so bad that it melted part of the aluminum cylinder head, all because of air pockets.
Good luck, Scott in CA

As to the shavings when you re-tap a hole. When repairing or resizing a hole with a tap, I've always used white grease; it picks up the shavings. Used this method when putting inserts in VW heads and never had an issue.

On this subject, I have rebuilt my 1957 TR3 engine. I had a machine shop do some of the tasks which I was not equipped to handle. In cleaning the block they removed the three oil gallery plugs and subsequently lost them. I can not find a source for these; any help??
