I am going to start reassembly of the motor this week. But British Parts Northwest where I got the upgraded main seal kit 3 years ago are out of the replacement seal. I think that it a standard ford seal, But does anybody know for sure what part # it is from Napa ? I can't wait three weeks for BPNW to get it in stock.

Hi Dan,

Why not try the other "BIG" 3; Moss, VB, TRF?

Do all the "big three sell the same kit? I am concerned that they might be a different seal.

Are you going to be using a seal that requires machining of the crank? If so and if the machining has not occurred you may want to consider the newer kit that requires no machining.

I haven't used either but am of the opinion that a no-cut approach would be preferable.

:iagree:
Especially considering how many people have found that the "machining required" seal leaks worse than the original. And I just saw an announcement from Joe (the North American distributor for the "no machining" seal) that he has caught up with the backlog and has 5 kits on the shelf. So right now would be a good time to order.

The "no machining" kit is actually two seals in one (belt and suspenders) as it leaves the original scroll seal functional (and includes the correct mandrel to make the original seal work properly).

does he have a website where he sells the new seal?

Here it is:
Vintage Racer

Joe posts frequently (and is a founding member) on the Friends of Triumph mailing list - I always just email him on orders and he's quick to respond.

I am going to call the machine shop first thing in the morning, I hope that they haven't machined it yet. I like the idea of "no machining" and for $100 bucks and no leak.....

Good luck Dan
My "modern oil seal" leaked terribly. Hope you can save your crank and use one of these new Joe Alexander seals. Otherwise, I'll be watching closely (hopefully, not watching the trail behind your car) as you install and run on your new BPNW seal (same one I have).

Aloha Dan,

I recently installed the "no machining" rear seal during my engine rebuild. It is a very straight forward install and I am very pleased with its performance. As Randall points out this kit gives you two rear seals.
