Define better. Banjo axles are lighter and allow fast, easy gearing changes. Tube axles are stronger and make less noise. So it depends on what you plan to use it for.
It is generally believed that the tube axle replaced the banjo only because the MGB GT was being released and the noise of the banjo rear end was too great for a closed coupe. The banjo is already far stronger than necessary for the power of the MGA/MGB. The tube axle which replaced it was designed for light trucks and vans.
Top is a Salisbury (proper name for 'tube')
Middle is a Banjo
Bottom is a hybrid - Banjo with Salisbury axles
The hybrid was never offered but is made by some of us to get the best of both rear ends: lightness of Banjo with quick gear change; strength of Salisbury axles with better lubrication to bearings. (IMHO)
