I have a 1974 MGB, and whenever I let off the gas and coast, the back end of the car vibrates a great deal. I jacked up the car, double checked everything to make sure the nuts on the U bolts were tightened and everything looked in place. The axle isnt low on oil, and neither is the tranny...so at this point I'm perplexed. I've owned the car for 6 years now and never have had this before...any tips or help would be great!
 
I had the same situation. I took my drive-shaft out, brought it to a shop, had it balanced and a new yoke and u-joint installed on the rear and all is perfect now. give it a try. I'm betting they'll find something wrong on your drive shaft. Another thing you can do is check the play in your hub bearings to make sure there is no slop.
 
Sounds like the exhaust is very close to the body at some point and making slight contact when decelerating. Been over any speed bumps lately? Bob
 
I was just going to say that I noticed a noise on decileration after I changed the muffler out for one I bought on EBAY. It turned out that the exhaust pipe shifts and vibratges off the bottom of the firewall. I plan to replace the muffler with a stainless pipe sometime and enjoy a better noise. good luck!
