Rear End swap....

That's just weird.

On a disc wheel housing, you should be able to place your fist between the spring perch and the mounting plates...on a w/w housing, you cannot do this because the housing (as previously mentioned) are different lengths, the w/w housing being shorter. (This is an easy way to identify a differential if the hubs have been removed.)

I'm also surprised that you're not having clearance problems with the fender lip if you indeed have a disc wheel differential with w/w hubs installed.

Narrowed steel wheel axle tube? That still doesn't explain the shaft lengths. Perhaps someone has made a custom rear end for whatever reason?

Oh well, I think we are going to give it a try. We'll keep all the other parts just in case we have to go back and redo it. Its time to move up on the list of things to do.
<s>replace wheels </s>

Here's something to check because one rear end housing should be narrower than the other (measured back of oil seal housing to back of oil seal housing)...look inside the 3rd member of both rear ends by removing the cover...see if one set of axles is fully mated into the gears & if the other set is only halfway into them.

Thanks Tony....looks like a great project to keep me busy tomorrow!
