TR2/3/3A Rear End Problem

I'm just guessing on the bearing failure, as I detected a whine and vibration before the total gear destruction. I looked at all the bearings and none looked all that bad. Not really sure why the rear end failed, but I am hoping this new rebuild will outlast me!

Glad your back on the road!! Your right, this should last for the life of the car from here.

After the break in, pay attention to any whine at 30mph, 60mph, and 90mph. I don't know why, but those are the resonant speeds when teeth are not aligned correctly that you hear the loudest noise.

I tend to go overboard on fluids. For the TR3 I changed the tranny and rear end fluid at every oil change. Always synthetic. For my daily drivers I change diff fluid every 20k miles. If nothing else, when you change the fluid frequently it becomes glaringly obvious when something is not working right in the gear boxes.
