rear bugeye brakes for dummies

Country flag
Offline
This is installment two in my learning curve for replacing the brakes on my 59 Bugeye. Could someone please tell me, step by step, how to get to the rear wheel brake cylinders.
I'm stuck. Front brakes, cylinders and hoses done!

Thanks!!!

Larry

anybody????

Pull the drums?

hard to imagine they are that much different than the front. What is the particular problem? I fit is how to get the wheel cylinder off- try looking behind the drum for a snap ring like clip around the rear of the wheel cylinder...

Undo the E-brake rod, Remove the banjo bolt and brake pipe knuckle from the wheel cylinder, slip off the rubber boot. The cylinder is a slip the notch in the slot type of fit, so wiggle it, push it fore and aft, and it will slide out.
Sometimes you need a gentle smack with a hammer.

longbridgehealey,

Didn't mean to be a smarta**. I thought you were asking how to get TO the cylinders, not how to get them off. Not paying attention to the BE description in your post and assumed disc's on the front.

I think spritenut has it right.

I will cover bets on Spritenut.

Frank got it - there was so much gunk on the knuckle that I didn't see the banjo bolt. It just didn't seem like there was any way to get the cylinder through the opening and past the hub. I was looking for the c-clip on the back, but they are on the later bugeyes.
Thanks Frank and everybody!

Larry (still learning about sprites!) :savewave:

Banjo bolt 2, me nothing - two days spent trying to release the banjo bolt on the back right wheel cylinder. :nopity:

:winner1: I got it!

Haha, nothing like persistance.

Hi Jack - still got the other side to get.....
